Hollywood studios impose clauses to curb star's use of social media

So not everyone is as sold on social media as we are.  Read this article to find out more and blog your thoughts.  I can see where they are coming from although they are also missing out on terrific amounts of free publicity and promotion.  Surely a total ban is excessive?  and couldn't they guide people to tweet and talk in the manner to which they'd prefer?  Or is that too uncontrollable?

Copyright confusion in blogs

Here is a very informative article from Ragan.  Better make sure I don't take credit for it!

Pretty informative but still pretty confusing and takes me back to my years at university where we were all so terrified of plagiarising.  I don't think any of us Y Society members would ever look to take credit for someone elses work, but we would use it to support our own arguments.

What do you think?

Ashton Kutcher tweets about a social media marketing campaign

View his latest tweet regarding Dewmocracy and let me know your thoughts.  I think it's interesting that a Hollywood superstar has blogged about this and that social media is something he has wholly embraced.  I bet this tweet gives the brand a massive push.  Watch this space.  I'd certainly never heard of Dewmocracy before - had you?

ROI measured on Twitter - great case study demonstrating clever use of social media

This is a super article which outlines how ROI can be empirically measured from a social media marketing campaign.  I think this article and the activity described can be used by most brands.  It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on it.  Blog away!

Also let me know your thoughts on Twitter - it's been on our minds for nearly a year now and I wonder if your thoughts on it have evolved.  Mine certainly have.  I now use Twitter to talk ab...

A Financial Company's text book use of social media - Bravo!

I've been looking for examples of good financial blogs, financial experts who 'tweet' well and so on.  I stumbled upon this article (below) on the Ragan website, where I find a lot of useful information.  Please take a moment to read and post your comments at the end.

The ROI Debate

Increasingly as companies are coming around to the idea of investing in social media we hear the acronym ROI.  In other words, how much bang do I get for my buck...?  I often think that it's not about monetary gain or economics, it's more of a soft return in reputation, trust and communication.

However I have come across an article in yesterday's Business Week which finally gives some credibility to the case for ROI.  They manage to justify i...

Wikis

Post transferred from Central to Y Society:

A while ago Alex asked me to set up a Delicious account and track the tag - wiki patterns.  I think it was after we had our blog club on Groundswell and discussed the benefits of a wiki in conjunction with a CCD type platform.

In truth I've had limited feeds come back to me but this recent one struck me as useful and informative so I'm posting the link for you all.  It's quite basic ...

Twitter

I wrote a post in our 'Central' blogsite back in February about Twitter.  How it has started to be recognised and talked about on the BBC and other channels.  At this point Twitter had 500,000 users.  On this morning's BBC Breakfast programme they announced increased membership to 4 million.  They have had the first Tweeter to reach 1 million posts - Ashton Kutcher.

Twitter, back in February, was little known and little discussed, but now i...

Newsletters and Company Magazines

I have been thinking a lot about financial companies lately, what with the launch of this site, and my focus fell on insurance companies - and in particular my old company, Hiscox.  I used to produce the company magazine, snappily named Hiscox News which is still in production today - click here for the website.  It must have come about from me receiving the RTL weekly bulletin (which I find remarkably useful, and could possibly also be used in ...

Retail CCDs - A look at ASOS

Following on from the posts in CCD Central, the topic of online networking sites came to the forefront of my mind this morning when the CEO of ASOS was interviewed on BBC Breakfast.

Announcing sales increases of 104%, in spite the economic crisis the retail sector is facing, is extraordinary.  Yet not so extraordinary when you look at how this site has evolved - starting out with clothing, expanding into shoes and accessories, childrens wear an...
